緑の不思議な味
私は小さいとき、５歳までドイツに住んでいました。特定な記憶の一つは、私の好きなアイスクリームの味が緑の何かでした。アメリカで成長ようになる間、緑の一般的な味がピスタチオなので、ドイツの味もピスタチオだったと思いました。しかし、その味は実際に同じではありませんでした。大学生のとき、１ヶ月くらいドイツで大学に通っていました。小さいころの味はピスタチオではなく、「クルマバソウ」という味でした。ドイツ語で「ヴァルドマイスター」といいます。残念しながら、ドイツ以外、この味が見つかりにくいですが、私はもう一度味わいたいです。住んでいる町に、大きなアジアのスーパーがあり、ヨーロッパから輸入品も売っています。その店で見つけることができるかもしれません。
A Mysterious Green Flavor
When I was a child, I lived in Germany until I was 5 years old. One thing I particularly was that my favorite ice cream flavor was something green. As I grew up in the US, I determined that the green flavor must have been pistachio, since that is the most common green ice cream here. However, the flavor was never right. When I was in college, I studied in Germany for about a month. Eventually, I found out that the flavor from my childhood wasn't pistachio, it was something called "woodruff," or as it's called in Germany, "waldmeister." Unfortunately, this flavor is not widely found outside of Germany, but I'd like to find it and taste it again. There's a big Asian supermarket in town that also sells many European imports. Perhaps I can find it there.
